I've always preached and tried my best to live by the phrase "Baby steps..." (said, quite specifically, in the words of the bear security guard in the movie "Muppets From Space"). So I'm grateful to Lauren for simply suggesting to adopt a turkey from Farm Sanctuary to start a new tradition. You know sometimes how you can't see the obvious? Well she showed me the obvious. You see I was thinking how much I'd LOVE to start our own tradition for Thanksgiving, but the idea of it all stressed me out- our house is small, I have only cooked for more than 4 people maybe 3x in my life, etc so hosting it wouldn't work too well. And avoiding family so as to avoid being subjected to the ignorance and cruelty would cause a rift that's too stressful for me to deal with at this time. Sooo Lauren's suggestion was the perfect baby step. And so today we sponsored Mello :)

I had read on Farm Sanctuary's website about it before, but it was the obvious that I couldn't see. I was too wrapped up in the stress of anticipation and dread. Which of course I know is not very productive. But sometimes it's like that.
I learned today that there are cabins (B&B Style, nice!) that you can go stay in to visit the Farm Sanctuary up in NY. I TOTALLY want to do this, and hopefully we can do this next year.
